Frequently Asked Questions

we address common questions about hardwood flooring, from installation and maintenance to refinishing and finishes. Our goal is to provide you with the information you need to make informed decisions for your flooring projects.

Polyurethane is the most popular finish for hardwood floors. It’s available in different gloss levels, easy to apply, durable, and requires minimal maintenance. Some pre-finished floors include oxide for added wear protection.

Color changes are typically caused by exposure to light and air. Moving furniture can reveal darker patches where the floor received less light. This is a natural process for all wood floors.

Regular dusting is essential to prevent scratches caused by dust particles. Using a dry mop to remove dust and debris will help keep your hardwood floors in good condition.

Refinishing involves cleaning, sanding, and applying a new finish to restore the floor’s appearance. Most hardwood floors can be refinished 3-4 times in their lifespan, but it reduces the wood’s thickness.

Pre-finished hardwood is factory-finished, making it ready to install with no sanding or finishing required. It offers consistent quality and quicker installation compared to unfinished wood.

Hardwood can be installed on concrete by either gluing it down or using a floating installation method. A professional can recommend the best approach based on your situation.

Sanding removes the top layer of hardwood to eliminate scratches, dents, and old finishes. Coarse sandpaper is used first to strip the surface, followed by finer sandpaper for a smooth finish. Once sanded, the floor is ready for refinishing with a protective seal or stain.
